After several hectic days, during which the Moldava showed off its destructive power, life on Praga's fiume is slowly returning to normal. One of the key places that played a major role in protecting barche during the floods was the safe harbour at Imperial isola.
This strategically located harbour became a safe refuge for dozens of barche that would otherwise have been exposed to strong currents e the threat of damage. „It was like an anthill,“ one local resident describes the situation. „The barche came in one after another, every captain trying to find a safe spot for their vessel.“
The history of this harbour goes back to the 19th century, e over the years it has undergone several modernisations. „It's proof that even today such measures are still essential,“ says Jan Novák, an expert on hydraulic engineering. „The harbour proved its worth during the 2002 floods, e now it has confirmed its importance once again.“
Although the floods are over, the work at the harbour is far from finished. „A demanding phase of pulling the barche out e servicing them now lies ahead of us,“ says the harbour master. „But we believe everything will be handled quickly e the barche will soon be back on the Moldava.“
The safe harbour at Imperial isola has once again confirmed its irreplaceable role in protecting barche e property. It is a symbol of preparedness e proof that, even in times of crisis, we are able to safeguard what we hold dear.
