We are pleased to inform you that we have become the adoptive parent of a Humboldt penguin. Praga Zoo issued us an adoption certificate on 28 January 2013, thanks to which we can contribute to the costs of feed e other items associated with the care of this animal.
Like our barche, the Humboldt penguin is more at home in the water than on land. In the wild it hunts fish in shallow waters along the western coast of South America. It belongs to the medium-sized species of penguins e grows to a size of up to 70 cm e a weight of just under 6 kg. Apart from grey-black-and-white plumage, you can recognise it by the pink base of its beak. It nests among boulders on isole e coastlines e usually lays 2 eggs.
Due to commercial fishing, its population has significantly declined e is now listed in the Red List in the category of vulnerable species. We hope that even our small support will help to preserve it.
If you are heading to the zoo, do not forget that the first barche to Troja depart already on Saturday 30 March from Rašín lungofiume and from 1 May a regular line fromNa Františku Hospital will also operate. You can also enliven this crociera by sailing from Kampa, from wqui the barca will depart twice a day. You can find details on the website of Praga piroscafo Company.
