Apart from corporate events our boats are also used, for example, for international negotiations. One such meeting took place yesterday on our luxury boat Luznice. Here members of the German Bundestag met together with Czech senators, Karel Korytar and Petr Bradsky. The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr Karel Dobes, was also present at the meeting.
The subject of the meeting was discussion of the possibilities of developing the region connected by the Elbe river and the related international cooperation between the two countries. All participants agreed that it is necessary to develop the use of the Elbe waterway. Moreover, for the Czech Republic the river represents the only link to the sea.
The event on our boat Luznice was organised by the international organisation and association Hafen Hamburg.
Did you know that the Czech lands once had a sea?
Yes, in the 13th century that was indeed the case. Thanks to the expansive policies above all of Premysl Otakar II, the Czech lands stretched across the Alps as far as the Adriatic.
The idea of connecting the Czech lands to the sea was once again revived during peace negotiations in Paris after World War I. At that time the Foreign Minister Edvard Benes submitted a proposal to create a kind of corridor connecting Prague with Trieste. However, this request was rejected at the conference.
