On the right bank of the Vltava you'll find Rašín Embankment (Rašínovo nábřeží). It runs from the Vyšehrad Tunnel via Výtoň, where the Railway Bridge crosses it, past Palacký Square, where Palacký Bridge branches off, all the way to Jirásek Square, where Jirásek Bridge meets it.
In addition to the road, a riverside walk runs along most of its length. The so-called náplavka (riverside) features a marked cycling route and also serves as a promenade. There are several moorings here from which boats of various shipping companies depart. Farmers' markets are held here regularly, where you can buy produce from Czech farmers. The embankment is also a transport artery for trams and cars. The embankment is roughly 950 m long.
Rašín Embankment has carried various names over its existence (e.g. Podskalí Embankment 1919–1924, Vltava Embankment 1940–1942, Reinhard Heydrich Ufer 1942–1945, Friedrich Engels Embankment 1951–1990) and was divided into different sections.
The section from Palacký Square to Jirásek Square was rebuilt as an embankment in the 1870s and was first called Palacký Embankment. The section from the Vyšehrad rock to Palacký Square was rebuilt as a raised embankment at the start of the 20th century and was first called Vyšehrad Embankment. In 1990, both parts were merged under the name Rašín Embankment.
On one of our longer cruises along Rašín Embankment you can admire a number of Prague landmarks, such as the Dancing House or the Podskalí Customs House at Výtoň.
