The ferry in Prague-Troja has had a brand-new high-capacity ferry boat since August. Passengers can now cross between Imperial Island and the zoo much more quickly. Compared with the previous ferry, the Mistr Jan Hus boat, which has a capacity of 25 and was put into service as a stopgap after the collapsed footbridge had been cleared, the new Troja boat carries up to 100 passengers.
The Troja boat was built to order by the Prague Steamboat Company specifically for this location, where the water is shallow and the river has a steep gradient. The new vessel has a draft of just 45 centimetres, measures 15 metres in length and 4 metres in beam.
"Compared with the boat used on the ferry until now, Troja makes boarding and disembarking faster and more comfortable for passengers, and it has a capacity several times higher. We are proud that we managed to build her in such an incredibly short time, which, as far as I know, is a record not only in our country. Just one hundred days passed from the moment we received the brief and drew the first lines on paper to the day she went into service — including the time needed to obtain the various permits," says PPS spokesman Dušan Sahula. "The occasional queues at the ferry should now be a thing of the past."
The ferry at the site of the collapsed footbridge is set up by ROPID, operated by PPS and is free for passengers.
