An exceptional cruising season has begun! Our sister company, the Prague Steamboat Company, is celebrating an incredible 160 years.
The Prague Steamboat Company has launched its 160th cruising season — and that's an event worth noting well beyond the borders of the capital. The legendary steamer Vltava, listed as a cultural monument, is once again setting out on its traditional excursion routes and inviting passengers on an unforgettable journey along the river.
This year marks exactly 160 years since the first steamer connected Prague with towns along the Vltava and the Elbe. It was 1865, and the Prague Steamboat Company was founded — a phenomenon that fundamentally transformed not only transport, but life along the river. Steamboat travel back then brought economic development, new social opportunities and cultural connections between regions. And its story continues to this day.
PPS is entering its new season with pride and with new offerings. The iconic steamer Vltava, rightfully listed as a cultural monument, is once again setting out on her traditional routes. You can take her on a full-day trip to Slapy or on a romantic cruise to Mělník, where the Vltava meets the Elbe. Along the way you'll see the majestic confluence, châteaux and the typical Central Bohemian landscape, which takes on a new dimension from the deck of a steamer.
The popular full-day trip to Slapy is among the most beautiful experiences you can have aboard a historic steamer. Here the river flows through a romantic canyon, surrounded by cliffs, wooded slopes and breathtaking views. The cruise is calm and comfortable while still leaving you in awe of nature's work — an ideal way to slow down and let yourself drift through a landscape that changes with every bend.
The big news of this year, however, is the return of another jewel of Czech steamboat navigation — the steamer Vyšehrad. She, too, holds the status of a cultural monument, and from late summer she will turn into a floating museum offering a unique glimpse into the history of boat transport. Visitors will encounter authentic historical artefacts, period uniforms and a beautifully restored mayoral lounge that hosted distinguished guests as far back as the First Republic. Tech enthusiasts will be delighted by a large interactive model of the Vyšehrad steamer built from the legendary Merkur construction set. And so that the children get their share too, an entire creative salon will be ready, where they can build their own boat from Merkur — or anything else their imagination dreams up.
Floating events with views of Prague and of nature
The Prague Steamboat Company and its sister company Prague Boats offer wide-ranging options for renting boats for company and private events. Whether you're planning a stylish corporate celebration, a networking cocktail, a product launch or a wedding reception, on the deck of a historic steamer or a modern electric catamaran every gathering takes on an unrepeatable atmosphere.
Beyond the classic steamers, you can also use unique fully electric, quietly running boats such as Anna Carolina or Bella Bohemia — ideal for events that want to combine sustainability with elegance. A category of their own are the fully glazed boats such as Grand Bohemia, which provide unobstructed views of Prague's historic skyline in any weather. Modern facilities, a flexible interior layout and high-quality catering from our own gastronomic operation make these vessels an ideal choice for the demanding MICE segment. Equipment for presentations, interpreting or live music is also available.
Tradition, technology, romance and experience — all of this is brought together by a cruise that has been part of Czech culture for 160 years. And if you're still hesitating about when to step on board — right now is the perfect moment.
